The client had just moved from Texas to Ferndale and the back landscape was pretty bare and overgrown. A lot of the plants were misplaced and growing into each other. Being from Texas the client has no idea what they wanted in their yard, but they knew it was under kept and ugly. They wished to spend time in the back yard having fun and entertaining friends.
PCL created a custom design specified off of the clients general ideas of how they would wish to spend their time at their new home. We incorporated a concrete walkway down the side of the house leading to the backyard. We changed the theme of the home from overgrown plants with weeds and bark, to beautifully placed plants mixed with rocks, cobblestone, gravel, an oval patio for a fireplace, a 3 tier basalt column water feature, and low maintenance landscape edging. PCL came up with the idea of blocking out the unwanted noises of neighbors and roads with a water feature that drizzles slowly, and to top it off the water feature is surrounded with lavenders and lemon balms for a calming scent.
After finishing the installation of the landscape the clients wished to have new railing on their deck that overlooks their fence leading to Mt Baker. The clients than wanted to add custom raised beds alongside the deck for vegetable growth.
The clients were in heaven as we sculpted their ideas using professional methods into their landscape. At the end of all the busy projects, the clients told the team that they are extremely happy with the good design, and overall meaning of the landscape they have. They couldn’t be happier.
A Ferndale, WA homeowner needed maintenance-free landscaping with better accessibility. Specifically, the client desired level, easily accessible walkways, stairs, and lawn areas. Lawn features would have to “take care of themselves” as much as they could in order to relieve the client of that task to the greatest extent possible.
While no landscaping can ever be totally maintenance-free, Puget Construction & Landscaping (PCL) knew how to create a design requiring as little maintenance as possible to meet this particular client’s needs. To make all sections of the lawn safely and easily accessible, we made certain that the walkways, stairs, and the lawn itself were free of potholes, uneven footing, and other objective hazards.
We also designed a lawn that was both easy to water and required less watering than the average one. In addition, the lawn was resistant to weeds and used plants that would be easy to maintain. For aesthetic benefits, we removed soil and mulch from the base of the house so that there would be a clearance of 4-6 inches between the bottom of the house and all stonework.
The client was happy to have low-maintenance, easily watered, and safely accessible landscaping that will stay that way for years to come. But that wasn’t all. In addition to meeting the customer’s requirements, the work PCL performed boosted the home’s curb appeal, which will improve its resale value when that time comes. A Ferndale family had an existing fence that they wanted to remove. In its place, they wished to have a beautiful new horizontal-style cedar fence installed. Realizing that a new fence might impact the aesthetics or even the values of their neighbors’ homes, they wanted to do the right thing and make sure the new fence would be a neighbor-friendly one.
The family entrusted Puget Construction & Landscape (PCL) with installing a new cedar fence for their Ferndale home. After meeting with the clients and listening to their needs and to their considerations for their neighbors, we developed a plan to meet all the objectives. Using 4x6x10 pressure-treated cedar posts, we concreted the posts 2’ into the ground with the centers 6’ apart. Then we finished the fence with a horizontal, neighbor-friendly style for the planks and spaced them according to the family’s wants for a balance between openness and privacy.
This project was a win for everyone in this Ferndale community. The family now has a beautiful new horizontal cedar fence accenting their yard, and it looks great from all angles and has the durability that will last for years. Due to PCL’s meticulous design and care, no neighbors are stuck with a view of the “ugly” side of the fence. And PCL has again proven to clients and their neighbors how we beautify and protect homes and properties.
The client had an ugly, useless hill on the backside of this property. He wanted this portion of his property to be safe and functional. The client was disappointed with his lack of a large, usable backyard. He was also concerned that over time there would be soil erosion. Puget Construction and Landscape were hired to turn the steep hill into a great looking, functioning space.
Puget Construction and Landscape resolved the client’s problem by designing a unique landscape that would retain soil and prevent erosion. By building a retaining wall, we were able to create a safe and usable space. With Trex decking, we extended the deck and built a staircase leading from the deck onto the hill. We added a number of plants for aesthetic and used a cornerstone summit blend with a 4-inch grey cap.
